Sludge treatment
Vegetation for treatment of sludge
Reed beds for the drainage of sludge produces well composted sludge with a high content of dry matter. The final product is a soil-like material with good characteristics.
The subsurface stems of the reed, the rhizomes, contribute to the oxygenisation of the sludge by penetrating the sludge, thus creating cavities and canals where oxygen can enter and water evaporate. Evaporation through the reed leaves during hot summer days also helps reduce the sludge water content.
Reed beds have many advantages. It is an energy-efficient method, where energy consumption as well as transports are minimised. Once the bed is in full operation, the required work effort is very low.
We work with several different methods for sludge treatment and have many years of experience of vegetation in biological treatment systems. Our services also include vegetation establishment and start-up operation of the reed beds.
In co-operation with the Swedish engineering consultancy company VA-ingenjörerna AB, we design new sludge treatment facilities.
